How the Mystery Object changed

Here is the Bubble Cat’s Mystery Object – but it looks different. What are those things coming out of it? Were they inside the object all along?

The Bubble Cats left their Mystery Object inside one of the mountains with lids. When they got it back, it looked like this. What has happened to it?
