Mystery Objects in the ears

Once a week, the Pumpkin People children must stop whatever they’re doing and attach Mystery Objects to their ears. Why must they do this?

What can the children hear through the Mystery Object? It must be something they need to know. What do they learn and why is it so important? Maybe it is a weekly challenge they must do. It could be a test they have to pass.
